What is Reiki?

Reiki is the transmission of the intangible.

Reiki can best be understood the way we understand poetry. It’s possible to deconstruct it, diagram it, map it, but you won’t find its beauty there. And you won’t understand it any better. Like a good poem, it’s cohesive and essential, and it speaks through the soul. And it works even if you don’t believe in souls or poetry. Reiki is an energy force like gravity, or the electromagnetic field, or sound. Reiki is completely right brained and non-verbal. Reiki resists definition because it is not bound by the implied limits of the conscious, material, verbal world.

Originating in Japan at the end of the 19th century, Reiki migrated to the west through Hawaii in the 1930’s. Reiki is a form of energy healing which works through the body’s vibrations to harmonize and energize. Reiki practioners channel the universal (‘rei’) life force (‘ki’) for the benefit of their clients. Reiki raises the vibrational frequencies, clearing and harmonizing energy pathways, allowing energy to flow in a healthy and natural way.
Most people experience Reiki as a peaceful, loving, energizing experience. Because Reiki works only for the clients highest good, it is always helpful, and always an appropriate healing modality. It compliments all forms of naturopathic, allopathic, and alternative forms of medicine.

Reiki has been recognized as beneficial for stress reduction, pain relief, relaxation, increased vitality, reduction of physical, mental and emotional suffering, depression, anxiety, alienation, compulsion, creative blocks, fatigue, chronic conditions, headaches and migraines, aches and pains, obsessions and addictions.

Reiki can be and is used by people of all faiths and backgrounds. You do not need to ‘believe’ in Reiki for it to work. It’s a unique healing modality involving light touch or no touch, and can even be done across great distances. It’s a wonderful way to enhance your meditation/ yoga/ tai chi practice, a great parenting resource, and a terrific way to treat yourself. Reiki brings good things to life. It really does.
